to be rewritten and laid out, but i'll talk about the history of the zoetrope, invented in 1833, the zoëtrope was kind of like a 19th century gif viewer. Strips of images were placed in a cylinder which was then spun. When viewed through the slits in the sides, the images began to animate.
I wanted to make the zoëtrope modern while retaining and enhancing its interactive quality. It was important to me that it looked cool just sitting there, so I put the art on the outside and lit the zoëtrope from within.
